...to keep Algore? Former Vice President Al Gore may be sent to North Korea to negotiate the release of two American journalists on trial, the AFP reported. Laura Ling and Euna Lee, reporters for Gore's California-based Current TV, were arrested March 17 near the North Korean border while on a reporting trip to China on charges they entered the country illegally and engaged in "hostile acts" — allegations that could draw a 10-year sentence in a labor camp.
How much do you think we would have to pay North Korea?
As sick as it is....would the North Koreans rape them as punishment and then give them back as an example to others? That must be the worst thing that can happen....being in jail in N. Korea.
What is happening right now with Laura Ling and Euna Lee in North Korea?
SEOUL, South Korea – Two American journalists headed to trial Thursday before North Korea's highest court on charges they crossed into the country illegally and engaged in "hostile acts" — allegations that could draw a 10-year sentence in a labor camp. Laura Ling and Euna Lee, reporters for former Vice President Al Gore's California-based Current TV, were arrested March 17 near the North Korean border while on a reporting trip to China. Their trial began at a time of mounting tensions on the Korean peninsula following the regime's provocative May 25 nuclear test. As the United Nations and Washington discussed how to punish the regime for its defiance, there were fears the women could become political pawns in the standoff with Pyongyang. Analyst Choi Eun-suk, a professor of North Korean law at Kyungnam University, said the court could convict the women, and then the government could use them as bargaining chips with the United States. "The North is likely to release and deport them to the U.S. — if negotiations with the U.S. go well," Choi said. The two nations do not have diplomatic relations, and experts called Pyongyang's belligerence a bid to grab President Barack Obama's attention. As_nkorea_journalists_held No word from Obama, Clinton, Justice Dept ? Change we can believe in, yes ?
American journalists head to trial in North Korea crossed into the country illegally maybe a 10-year sentence?
I think they were supposed to stand trial in North Korea today. I have been watching the news trying to get an update and nothing has come up. So I was just wondering if anything has been said on the news about it earlier. Its a terrible thing to happen and I hope they come home safely.
Does anyone have an update on Laura Ling and Euna Lee, the journalists being detained in North Korea?
I'm talking about Laura Ling, and Una Lee, who got arrested by North Korean border police. What were their movements up until the time of their arrest, and what they were up to. I think I heard they were arrested by northern border police, so did they go to an unauthorized part of the country after entering from South Korea, or had they been in China? Thank you, Roy O'Neill
Journalists arrested by North Korea?
This isn't a question so much as a statement. Both journalists will be found guilty because they broke the law of the country of North Korea. I believe the two individuals entered N. Korea to acquire first hand information related to whatever story they were pursuing. I believe: 1. they both intentially crossed the border and it wasn't an accidental crossing. 2. they knew this was a very risky move but probably thought if they got out okay, they would both gain notariety in their careers and thought it was worth the risk, but ignorant of the consequence of getting caught. 3. they are not only a risk to N. Korea but because of their careless and selfish actions, they have become liabilities to the National Security of the US by giving N. Korea leverage in future negotiations. All this to further their professional careers. Laura Ling is sister to Lisa Ling, featured in several TV shows and host of documentaries. I believe Laura Ling did this foolish act in an attempt to close the journalist success gap between the siblings. Now they have become pawns for N. Korea. I don't feel sorry about what's happened to them. N. Korea has every right to enforce their borders any way they want. Who are Laura and Euna to think they are above the laws of another country? I don't know what Obama will or what he can do to get the released. But I certainly hope that Obama will not give concessions to N. Korea as an exchange of release. I have no sympathy for what the two journalists have done. For becoming national security threats to the US, they ought to be punished either by N. Korea or the US. People have been shot to death for crossing the N. Korean border; they should be considered lucky.
Laura Ling & Euna Lee - foolish selfishness?
Can Rory Emerald convince Kim Jong-il to release Lisa Ling's sister Laura and fellow journalist Euna Lee?
Can Rory Emerald convince Kim Jong-il to release Lisa Ling's sister Laura and fellow journalist Euna Lee?
No one seems to care anymore. Journalists are the ones who educate people about the world. When people are educated, they are much harder to brainwash. When people can't be brainwashed and continue realizing that there are no evil people out there (except for other brainwashed people like north korea) then war does not have to happen. Laura and Euna are valuable. How can we save them? And when will mother nature wake the FUCK up and flush north korea down the toilet?Icecream, you should abstain from saying things like that when you are educated so poorly on the subject. Watch "Inside North Korea" from National Geographic and you will get it. Seriously...who the fuck ever said anything about globalization? Learn something
